The new library addition "Packaging: Design Successful Packaging for Specific Customer Groups" is a great resource for graphic design students to see current market examples of how grid systems are integrated as the basis for layouts on current products. Also, this book also has great typographic use on products highlighted. Moreover, the emphasis of this book portrays how clean, simple and clear-reading packaging can better promote a products' life-span. Definitely a good browse for improving ones' techniques through the Art Institute's Package Design course!

Extreme Worlds: the complete guide to drawing and painting sci-fi art - Francis Tsai
        Call Number: NC 825 .S34 T73 2009
        ISBN: 1600613411
        Publication Date: 2009
This book is a wonderful resource in terms of layout and content. It breaks down the artist’s actual working process, which is helpful when studying and collecting ideas. This is done through several examples of both character and vehicle sketches, from the initial gesture drawing to the finished painting. This books is also a good over-view of science fiction art and better than the usual "how to" book. There are a lot of little gems and stuff in here to pick up on.
This is not a book for a beginning artist. The examples within are not so much intended as "follow along" draw techniques, but as a sample of a type of work flow that could be adapted and incorporated into your own. At least I think that is more the intent of them, but if nothing else just the artwork alone is nice inspiration. This won't take you through the basics of drawing, and it is very specific... science fiction concept artwork... in its subject matter. If you need basics, you have to look elsewhere... but for a more advanced art student, or even industry pro, this is a nice inspirational book that you might pick up a tip or two from.
That said… this is a fine place to begin to understand fantasy design for games and movies. Francis Tsai does a wonderful job of breaking down the fundamentals and helping the reader to grasp what makes an effective image. You get an insight into what it takes to work in the industry and what will be expected of you.
